Mdm Hermin
Oasis@Outram day care patient

Mdm Hermin leads a busy day every time she visits Oasis@Outram. From spending time with friends to exercising and participating in a range of activities, Mdm Hermin finds joy in being part of the Oasis@Outram community.

Regaling tales of her life; she met her husband when he was in the Singapore Navy and she was working in Indonesian immigration. A marriage of 59 years gave rise to four children and multiple grandchildren. Mdm Hermin proudly announces everyone that she celebrates both Chinese New Year and Hari Raya at her house, as three of her children found Chinese spouses. Her face lights up with memories of numerous happy family celebrations at her home, filled with loud noises, much joy, and love.

With its space and activities designed around the 3D model that emphasises Dignity, Diversity, and Development, Oasis@Outram allows patients a greater hand in deciding how they wish to spend their day, setting it apart from conventional day hospices.

When asked about her favourite activities at the centre, Mdm Hermin highlighted the arts and crafts programmes and exercise, but not singing, never singing, she laughed. Her all-time favourite activity however, is chatting with her friends reminiscing about an earlier time in Singapore.

While she finds it hard when friends at the centre pass on, Mdm Hermin does recognise that it is part of life. She appreciates the meaningful time spent with them, valuing the many friendships she has made at Oasis@Outram.
